Known as the most beautiful village in Boyacá, Monguí is a small marvel still spared by the tourist fever that takes hold of Bogotanese on weekends. Its cobbled streets and colonial houses with white facades and green painted doors make it a picturesque place. Monguí is also known as the Capital del Balón. About a hundred people live from the manufacture of balls (especially soccer balls), many of which are still sewn by hand. You will be kindly received in the workshops and you may be offered a game of soccer... even if it is said that the inhabitants are not fanatics of this sport and that they prefer billiards or tejo! Also worth seeing is the beautiful central square, the Franciscan basilica and convent, and the old Puente Real de Calicanto. But Monguí is also the starting point to discover the magnificent Páramo de Ocetá, with its frailejones, its Ciudad de Piedra (or Ciudad Perdida, an impressive rock formation) and the Laguna Negra, among other spectacular landscapes.
