The country's 8th-largest city, situated 105 km from Helsinki and built between moraine ridges, has a population of around 118,000. The gateway to the Land of Lakes, Lahti is famous for its winter sports resort at the southern end of Lake Päijänne, with three large ski jumps, Finland's national sport.The Lahti region lends itself remarkably well to cross-country skiing, with 170 km of lit trails. The resort regularly hosts international ski competitions. From the panoramic platform perched on the highest of the ski jumps, you can see the whole city and the surrounding area.
