The municipality takes its name from the many lakes - some 270 lakes make up 10.5% of Virrat - rivers and rapids around it. With a population of 6,543 (2020), it is the largest municipality in the region. The lakes of Toriseva lie at the bottom of ravines with steep overhangs sometimes reaching 30 m in height. It is the terminus of the cruise departing from Tampere (La route du Poète). There are many activities to enjoy around Virrat, such as fishing in the rapids or hiking the Pirkan Taival trail, which passes through the area. In town, you can always take a look at the interesting museum and church.
