This nature reserve covers 544 km2 and includes many coastal islands. Since the retreat of the glaciers 10,000 years ago, the east coast has risen by 285 m, which corresponds to the most important rebound ever observed, which has led to the reserve being listed by UNESCO. The result is an exceptional coastal landscape of 5,600 islands and islets. New islands are continually emerging. The archipelago has large lighthouses (Ritgrund, Valsörarna, Norrskär and Strömmingsbada), which mark out the route of ships. The reserve has the usual logistics: forest houses, huts, to be visited on foot or by canoe.
