Before reaching Kokkola, towards Evijärvi inland, take note of the magnificent old manor houses. The one in Alperintupa has been converted into a museum of Ostrobothnia folk culture. In still others, you can spend a night in a traditional enclosed bed, savour a reindeer meat stew or take, like the old farmers, a savusauna (smoke sauna). Between the floral-patterned walls of the common room (or tupa), people once gathered to read the Bible as a family or to receive guests. And in this small town of 2,422 souls, you can also take a look at the beautiful wooden church dating back to 1759.
