It is in this city that in 1888 the first train to Bukhara stopped: a major historical event in this city long forbidden to Westerners. This technological invasion was greeted with suspicion. The emir was persuaded by the many gifts of the tsar, but the mullahs were very hostile and fiercely resisted the unholy intrusion. So the station was built as far as possible from the holy city, 16 km from Bukhara. It is still here today that the trains from Samarkand arrive. A trolleybus connects the station to the city center and cabs also run day and night.
