Nestled in the hollow of a basin, protected by the mossy mass of Mount Wonko and drowned in dense vegetation, Macenta is a small town with a pleasant and quiet climate, far from the feverish agitation of Guéckédou. Numerous agricultural projects try to take advantage of this favorable microclimate, and you will therefore see plantations of coffee trees, cocoa trees, rubber trees, kolatier trees, oil palm trees and even tea trees. Founded by the Toma, Macenta means "I didn't even move". The Kono were the first occupants of the place. Then, the Camara family (i.e. "the men of speech") took over the city until the time of the Samoryen Empire.
