Nothing to do with the Kissi ethnic group, the name of the town of Kissidougou, composed of kissi (to escape) and dougou (land), literally means, in Malinké, "the land of asylum. The Malinké found refuge there on the road to exile. The city was the home of Soundiata Keita's older brother, Dankaran Touma Keita. Their last chief, Kissi Kaba Keita, fought a merciless battle with the colonists before dying in 1898. Today, Kissidougou is a crossroads linking Forest Guinea to Upper Guinea. Its land is fertile. Agricultural products from the region (avocado, banana, orange, grapefruit, kola nuts) are sold locally at unbeatable prices and are widely sent to the capital Conakry
