Halfway between Kłodzko and Nysa, Paczków has retained its old charm and especially its medieval fortifications that have protected the town since the 14th century, earning it the nickname "Polish Carcassonne." The parallel is a bit bold, but the village is still picturesque and worth a detour of a few hours. The founding of Paczków is closely connected with the politics of the bishops of Wrocław, who in the 13th century shaped an independent territorial regime. To this end, they carried out intensive colonization in the region, placing villages as well as fortifications on the bangs of their domain.
