The name of River is the example of a large waste. River, «Silesian Rome», was once a major religious centre, where the colorful Baroque buildings reflected the wealth of the region. Everything was destroyed in 1945. Communist power has opposed the rehabilitation of religious buildings, and River has dressed itself in a concrete forest. See the Bishop's Palace (Pałac Biskupi) and the monastery of the Sepulchre (Klasztor Bożogrobców), baroque and fairly well preserved.
