You'll hear a lot about this town of 8,300 inhabitants if you travel to Masuria, as it's a tourist hotspot. Unlike Giżycko, the place has an authentic charm, preserved from destruction, featuring old Prussian houses beautifully spread out along the lakeshore. In summer, the population increases tenfold, so it's best to book in advance. Come here rather than to Giżycko. To the east of the town lies the Lake Łuknajno nature reserve, included on Unesco's list of world reserves. It's home to over 200 bird species, including a colony of a thousand swans.
