30km west of Białystok, dozing along the Narew River, the baroque village of Tykocin is considered one of the most beautiful in Podlaskie. During the Second World War, Tykocin's entire Jewish population was decimated by the Nazis. The town's demographic decline meant that it could no longer be considered a town: in 1950, it lost its status as a village. Somewhat lethargic, Tykocin is a charismatic place that has retained its historic character and where the imprint of Jewish culture is still very much present. The village can be the object of an excursion that's as exotic as it is moving.
