A wild beach where surfing enthusiasts will easily find what they're looking for; the waves are smaller than elsewhere, however, and will also suit beginners. Playa Marsella lies to the north of San Juan del Sur, at the mouth of the Quebrada El Bastón, along which are scattered a number of upscale hotels. There are also a few hotels on the beach itself, as well as a restaurant and one or two bars and cafés. All of this is very busy at weekends, when the Nicaraguans are most present. The rest of the time, the atmosphere is quiet, calmer than on the other major beaches on the country's Pacific coast.
