The town of Oppdal is one of the country's most renowned winter sports resorts. In addition to its many facilities - some 30 slopes spread over four mountains - Oppdal is also known for its unspoilt natural environment. It's the ideal starting point for long hikes in the country's untouched wilderness, ice climbing or dog sledding. You can enjoy Norway's largest ski area, or canoe on the Gjevilvannet mountain lake in Trollheimen ("home of the trolls"). The lake is surrounded by rugged mountains and charming transhumance cottages.
