North of Inle Lake, the main village of Nyaung Shwe is reached by the lake, sailing on a long canal or by road. After the often arid epic of the shan plateau, the arrival at Nyaung Shwe, with its flooded rice fields and fat buffaloes, is a relief. The village is prosperous, enriched by tourist activity. This is where most of the lake's hotel infrastructure is located. But it is also invested in rice cultivation, unlike the pa-o villages of the shan mountains surrounding Inle, which are deprived of everything. Here, water abounds on the shores of the lake. It is good to live in Nyaung Shwe, with the lake, the market, the village, the smiles, the massages and the good restaurants. For travellers, this is paradise in Burma. It is necessary to stay in Nyaung Shwe at least three days, the time to go around the lake and visit the surroundings by bicycle. Inle and its region have their own identity, which is found nowhere else in Burma.
