Inle Lake is a must for a first trip to Burma. Enclosed in a mountain range, it is also the place that a king considered ideal to move and imprison a whole village he had defeated: the Intha. Today, 800,000 "sons of the lake" are the descendants of this village. They have managed to make their natural prison a lifestyle recognized throughout Burma. Acrobatic fishermen and floating gardens attract tourists from all over the world. At the time of the fall of the rice prices, they had diversified their production with market gardening, hence the rise of these famous floating gardens. The second largest lake in Burma, Inle Lake is located 878 meters above sea level, it is 20 km long, has a surface area of 158 km2 and is shallow, between 2 m in the dry season and 6 m in the rainy season. It is popular from the shores to the villages on stilts at the prow of dugout canoes. What a scenery!
