Welcome to the pretty little village of Kalaw. It's the home of the trekkers. Situated 82 km east of Thazi and 50 km from Pindaya, Kalaw, a small Indian enclave on the Shan Plateau, populated by descendants of Sikh Indians from Punjab and gurkhas from Nepal who came to fight the Japanese alongside the British army. For the latter, Kalaw was an ideal climatic station at an altitude of 1,300 m, the evenings are cool! Even today, the road still meanders through colonial houses, large Tudor-style houses, and, in the town, there is no shortage of Indian and Nepalese restaurants, lassis and daahl at breakfast in the inns. From here, you can go for a day trekking in the surrounding padaung villages or for a few days walking until you find the Inle Lake. This motley town, the result of Burmese history, seems particularly committed to preserving its environment. This is a pleasant stopover.
