Kakku is only accessible by car, 50 km east of Taunggyi. There, about 2,500 stūpas stand on a hill above the Hopong Valley. More than 400 years old, no text explains who is the founder of this mysterious site. Legend has it that it was King Narapatisithu of Bagan who built these pagodas. Every year, a wonderful full moon festival takes place in March. The inhabitants of all the pa-o villages in the surrounding area put on their most beautiful traditional costumes, candles illuminate the pagodas under the light of the full moon, theatrical and musical performances take place. To get there, it will cost about forty dollars for a taxi from Nyaungshwe, then a few extra dollars per person for the entrance fee and five more for a guide, which is a mandatory condition to enter the site
