About 30 km east of Lomé is Agbodrafo, an ancient Portuguese city (formerly Porto Seguro), nestled between Lake Togo and the ocean. It is one of the cities from which slaves left for the colonies. There are still some testimonies such as the "house of the slaves" where the prisoners were piled up before being put on the ships. Another symbolic place, the "puits des Enchaînés" (well of the chained ones) where the slaves were washed in order to be purified before taking the sea. Facing Lake Togo, it is also a place of relaxation and leisure
