Mareja is a reserve project set up in 1998 by a gentle, Germanic light, Dominik Beissel, with the involvement of the local community: a perfect example of ecotourism. The association seeks to protect logging and to curb poaching of ivory and meat. Recently, a forest ranger training project was put in place to enable local recruits to meet the challenge of conservation. A building was rehabilitated to accommodate the curious.
