For security reasons, it is formally not recommended to travel to this area where jihadist terrorists have been established since 2017 and affiliated with Daesh since 2019. Macomia was previously only of interest because it is a crossroads between two roads. It was an important stop on the road between Pemba and the far north of the country (Mueda, Mocimboa da Praia).
