Maria Alm lies in the valley of the Urslau, a tributary of the Saalach, at the southern foot of the Steinernes Me er mountain range, part of the Berchtesgaden Alps. The community is the starting point of a pilgrimage route that leads through the mountains to the hermitage of St. Bartholomew on the Königsee. It is an important place of pilgrimage. The church of Maria Alm, with its 84 m high bell tower, the highest in the region, is worth a visit, where baroque and flamboyant gothic styles blend. Don't miss the frescoes on the ceiling, signed by Christoph Anton Mayr.
