Cortina occupies a superb position in a valley surrounded by magnificent mountains. Aptly nicknamed the "Pearl of the Dolomites", it's the ideal destination for exploring the mountains, winter and summer alike. Cortina hosted the Winter Olympics in 1956 and will host them 70 years later in 2026 with the city of Milan, while it hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships in 2021.A center of mountaineering tourism, sport and society, Cortina owes its fortune to its privileged location in a valley framed by the Tofane, Pomagagnon, Cristallo and Sorapis peaks, which offer an unforgettable spectacle at sunset. A few old houses still stand in the town center, and one luxury boutique follows another. Shopping in Cortina is bound to be expensive, with Moncler, Gucci, Prada and many more... This small, upscale resort town has stretched out into the valley, with holiday homes and luxury hotels surrounded by greenery. The small town stretches around Corso Italia. The pedestrianized historic center has preserved only a few houses from its past and a pretty little church. It is dotted with art galleries, chic boutiques, hotels and restaurants. To really appreciate Cortina, you need to get away from the center and climb up to Pocol. At sunset, when the sky is clear, the mountains take on unreal colors. The spectacle is repeated at dawn, when, passing behind the Passo Tre Croci, the sun's rays illuminate Mount Tofane.
