Grein was called the "Pearl of the Strudengau". In the Middle Ages it was the "Little Golden City". It is a charming town with beautiful historical remains which is worth a visit. You can visit the old municipal theatre, the oldest secular theatre in the country, which has been kept in its original state since it opened in 1791 in a former Rococo style granary dating from the 16th century. The Greinburg Castle, built around 1490, is also worth a visit, with its beautiful late-Renaissance arcaded courtyards. The Coburg Rooms tell the story of the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha family.
