In addition to its superb views of the Danube, Artstetten-Pöbring is most famous for its 13th-century castle in a magnificent park, which was purchased by the Austrian imperial family in 1823. It houses the tomb of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and a museum dedicated to the life of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. This is the main attraction of this small, rural town. There's also a store offering a wide range of local produce. Perfect for an ethical picnic! During opening hours, the château is also home to a friendly café.
