Kremnica is a picturesque town situated in a beautiful mountainous region, a mining town that has shone in the past. As early as the Middle Ages, Kremnica was an important city of the Hungarian kingdom thanks to its mines, and not just any mines: gold mines. This explains the existence of the oldest coin workshop still in operation. Minting coins here is a tradition that has existed since 1335 and continues to this day as this is where Slovak euros are made. In spite of its tormented history, between fires and earthquakes, the city has managed to preserve most of its charming architectural heritage.
