This small town is located in Prievidza, 64 km south of Žilina. It is mainly known for its castle. The first written mention of Bojnice dates back to 1113 when a wooden castle was mentioned. Until 1872, Bojnice remained the economic, administrative and military center of the region; this role was taken over by its neighbor Prievidza at the beginning of the 20th century, when the already stone castle was renovated in the romantic style. Today, Bojnice is worth a visit for its thermal baths, perhaps its zoo, but above all its castle, one of the jewels of Slovakia.
