You are in a village of transition between the plains and the cordillera, at 900 m altitude, on a small plateau where a watch can observe both the wide horizons of the Llanos and the imposing mass of the Andes. It was long thought that the city was founded at the same time as the current Barinas, on 25 May 1577, but in the archives of Seville in 1992, it is otherwise. At that time the conquistador Juan Andrés Varela, under the orders of the Governor of the province of Espírito Santo of Caceres, was tasked with exploring the lands of the area. It then finds the Cordillera and moves towards the Llanos. It is June 1577: with a group of men of trust, it takes the seat of a plateau occupied until then by the indigenous Barinas and founded the city on 30 June, according to the ceremony of rigour received the name Altamira in memory of the natives who thus called this land and Cáceres in honour to the governor of Merida. From the beginning, the church Notre-Dame-Del-Pilar de Saragoza is built, restored today, located between the only two posadas located on the place Bolívar. The three buildings are recognizable by their sky blue and white; go the OM! They give this place a Mediterranean accent. Today, the primary economic activity is the production of coffee and bananas. Altamira de Caceres is a preserved place of tourism, a true village life is concentrated around the place Bolívar, embellished with century-old mango.
