Located 80 kilometers south of Valencia, this city is one of the most attractive destinations on the Costa de Valencia. The Mediterranean Sea on one side and the mountains on the other make up a beautiful landscape around Gandía, which is the capital of the region of La Safor. The large amount of infrastructure and services that it has makes this town one of the most attractive destinations on the Costa de Valencia. Other attractions include its festivals, some of which are classified as being of tourist interest, and its gastronomy, which is typical of the Valencia region. In the fifteenth century, the Duchy of Gandia was granted to the Borja family. The founder of this famous lineage, Rodrigo Borja (Pope Alexander VI) was involved with his son Caesar and his daughter Lucretia in stories of crime and libertine. His grandson saved the family's honor by becoming a disciple of St. Ignatius of Loyola, that is, a Jesuit, and was even canonized by Pope Clement X in 1671 as Francisco de Borja. The house where he lived, the Palace of the Dukes, which has a beautiful Gothic patio, is now owned by the Jesuits. Nowadays, Gandía is a great seaside resort with beautiful beaches.
