The London Film Festival has held its annual Gay and Lesbian Film Festival every spring for about 25 years. It showcases the best in queer cinema. The festival is also run by the British Film Institute, and screenings are held at BFI Southbank. A selection of the films and shorts presented at the festival are then shown on tour in Great Britain. It is the third largest film festival in the UK.

This event is organized by CAMRA, the association for the defense of real ales. This association fights for the preservation of pubs and the defense of local producers. It brings together a huge selection of authentic and international beers (over 800 in all), ciders and thousands of drinkers under the Olympia roof. Street-food stalls, concerts, games and entertainment complete the line-up for this unusual event.

To celebrate the end of the year, thousands of revelers gather in Trafalgar Square, swaying arm in arm, singing Auld Lang Syne ("It's only goodbye, brothers"). Despite the hustle and bustle, the presence of drunks and pickpockets, and the occasional brawl, the event continues to draw large crowds. A fireworks display and the Big Ben carillon, magnificently restored after extensive renovation work, are also on the program.
