LORD MAYOR'S SHOW

The procession of the Lord Mayor, Mayor of the City of London (not to be confused with the Mayor of Greater London), has taken place every year for almost 800 years. It's a typically London custom, and so British. The Mayor of the City, elected every year, is paraded in costume and carriage to mark his inauguration and swear allegiance to the Queen and loyalty to the Crown. The spectacle, full of pomp and pageantry, includes brass bands, military parades, dances... Over 300,000 spectators attended. The ceremony is followed by a fireworks display.
