The name of the city comes from Pisaurus, the ancient name given to the river Foglia that crosses it. In the city centre you can find the pearls of Pesaro: the Palazzo Ducale, the Duomo, the Museo Civico, and the piazza del Popolo embellished by the 17th century fountain of the Tritoni. It is the birthplace of the musician Gioachino Rossini: every year, in August, the Rossini Opera Festival takes place, one of the most important in Italy, where internationally renowned conductors perform(www.rossinioperafestival.it). A museum dedicated to the great Italian composer of the 19th century was opened in 2019
