Travel Guide Tongo

Tongo, 15 km southwest of Bolgatanga, can be an interesting short trip. This town attracts pilgrims all year round, mainly from the Ashanti region. An oracle, consulted at the top of the mountain overlooking Tongo and whose voice emanates from a cave, is the object of worship. At the time of the Ashanti expansion to the north, their warriors were said to have been routed by a swarm of bees emerging from the oracle's cave. Since that day, the inhabitants of the region have had the custom of coming to implore the help of this mysterious power. After this visit, it becomes easier to understand why Bolgatanga is called the "city of stones" in Fra-Fra. The village of Tongo is also called Tengzug.
