Well before being a city, the place was a hunting camp and then a reserve of ivory. Thus, the origin of the name of the city would come from the Akan expression «Ason Ndwae», meaning «where elephants are stripped of their defences». In 1909, the settlers decided to install their administration, and then store the wealth of the region (kola, cocoa), which caused many workers on both sides of the country to be ashanti. This city has nearly 100 000 inhabitants. It is located 127 km north of Kumasi, on the main road that goes to Abidjan. There is absolutely nothing to see, except that it is the capital of the region and the starting point for many trips to Côte d'Ivoire.
