Shannonbridge is a small village of less than 200 inhabitants, with 19th-century Napoleonic fortifications and an 18th-century eight-arched narrow bridge. The bridge, one of the oldest to cross the River Shannon, links County Offaly with County Roscommon. The village is best known for its proximity to the monastic site of Clonmacnoise, some 7 kilometers away. The fact that the village lies along Ireland's largest river makes it another prime tourist attraction. It's a great option for a night or two's Irish touring in County Offaly.
