North of Porto-Novo, located on National Road 3 about 60 kilometers from Cotonou, the small town of Sakété (about 120,000 inhabitants) is a Nago town, renowned for its Guélédé societies, of Yoruba origin. These societies are well known for their masks and their ritual ceremonies. Once you arrive in Sakété, the enigmatic Nigeria is very close. It should be noted that nago is precisely the name given, in Benin, to the Yoruba from the kingdoms of Ifé or Oyo, in neighboring Nigeria. On the borders of Sakété, the landscape is thus characteristic of Nigeria with these large palm groves that sink into the landscape.
