At the end of the 16th century, the Agasuvi clan led by Agasu left Tado and settled in Allada. Agasu then took the name of Adjahuto, which would mean "the killer of the Adjas". Capital of the kingdom of Ardres, Allada became a powerful rival of Abomey until, in 1724, Agadja (1708-1728) seized the city to appropriate the wealth procured by trade with the Europeans. Today, the "city of a thousand fetishes" retains a mystical dimension, especially for the Agasuvi. For it is here that the remains of Agasu are buried. The landscape of the region is dominated by the important oil palm plantations of Hinvi and Houègbo.
