5 km south-east of Rantepao, Kete Kesu is a very pretty traditional village, a bit of a showcase as tongkonan are no longer inhabited here, but very well maintained all the same. You'll have to pay a "fee" of 30,000 rp per person to enter the village. Here you'll find a row of ten or so beautifully crafted houses, facing a line of rice granaries. This is the traditional formation of Toraja family-villages. The Rumah adat or Tongkonan represents the woman, while the Alang represents the man. This site is a genuine traditional village once inhabited by a large Toraja family.
