The cultural landscape of Puszta puszta is a vast expanse of plains and swamps in eastern Hungary. The traditional use of land for purposes such as the grazing of domestic animals has been perpetuated by a pastoral society for more than two thousand years. A large part of the National Park area is formed by natural habitats, alkaline meadows and marshes. From the point of view of nature conservation, artificial wetlands covering a much smaller area are of considerable importance: it is the ponds of 6 000 hectares that were created in the last century. The symbol of the park is the crane; It is without doubt one of the most spectacular attractions. Tens of thousands of cranes can be seen in October flying over the prairies. In the centre of Hortobágy, you visit the Museum of Shepherds which traces the history of the pastoral life.
