Set on the shores of the Indian Ocean, southeast of Solo, Pacitan is a restful village with a few comfortable but not luxurious hotels. Its beach, Pantai Ria Teleng, is 4 km from the village and is one of the most beautiful in East Java, but access is subject to a fee. On the one hand, it's much less crowded and Indonesian families can no longer enjoy it; on the other, the beach is much cleaner. There are many caves in the area, including Kalak.
