A vast island of 114 km², with peaceful landscapes, it is ideal for bike rides and also offers many beaches. It is said to have the largest labyrinth in the world (according to the owners!): 6 ha and 5 km of paths and tracks lined with fir trees, opened in May 2000 in Nordby, north of the island. But the island of Samsø is especially known for having made a 180 degree energy turn in 2003. Formerly powered by coal-fired power stations on the mainland, the island is aiming to be fossil-free by 2050 and is drawing its energy from wind, sun, wood and straw. An agricultural land renowned for its potatoes.
