A charming village 6 km south of Huedin, Sâncraiu (Kalotaszentkirály) is one of the strongholds of the Hungarian minority, with a particularly lively traditional Kalotaszeg culture. Renowned for its agro-tourism, it also boasts a number of guesthouses, offering a great experience off the beaten track. It's also a perfect base for exploring the region and hiking in the surrounding highlands. On St. Stephen's Day, August 18, Sâncraiu hosts a major Hungarian folk dance festival. On this occasion, all the locals dress up in their traditional costumes, while the Magyar minority flocks in from all over the country.
