The name of the city of Asan is often overshadowed by that of Onyang, which refers to its famous hot springs, 1000 years old and in which the kings of the time already liked to bathe. Asan is also the birthplace of one of the country's greatest names, Admiral Yi Sun-sin, a distinguished naval commander who triumphed over the Japanese in the Imjin War. He is honored at the Hyeonchungsa shrine on the site of his family home. We also discover the Gagwonsa temple which has one of the largest bronze Buddha in all of Asia.
