From the tranquility of this small, peaceful town on the banks of the Geum River, it's hard to imagine that it was once a place of power. Following in the footsteps of Gongju, Buyeo (formerly Sabi) became the new capital of the Baekje kingdom in 538, and remained so until 660, when it fell to its enemy, Silla. Its appeal therefore lies in the historical treasures unearthed following archaeological excavations. Royal tombs, fortress... Buyeo is a plunge into the era of its majesty.By bus. From Seoul (Nambu), buses leave every 15 minutes. It's a 2-hour 10-minute drive and costs between 17,000 and 26,000 won.
