Incheon is a place of transit, often regarded as a suburb of Seoul without much interest, apart from its airport. It was only a small port until the 19th century, but from 1883 onwards, with the opening of the city to international trade and foreigners, it underwent a certain development: it then became the obligatory passage for foreigners to Seoul and the interior of the country. Although located on the Yellow Sea, the city has no beaches, but it does abound in parks. In addition, the artificial island of Wolmido, to the west, is a popular place to go out, with its many restaurants and Play Hill amusement park. The main reason to visit Incheon is to take the boats to the offshore islands.
