Görlitz la Baroque (56 000 inhabitants), at the borders of Germany, is an architectural pearl. She deserves a visit to more than one title. The Baroque, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance have left their mark in their footsteps and it is now a very popular film decor, especially for historical films. As the only city in Silesia to be German after the war, it was divided by the movement of the Polish border to the west to the Oder-Neiße line. Zgorzelec, a Polish city, is located on the other side of the Neiße, but it was once a historic district of Görlitz. As time is in reconciliation, the two cities are at the forefront of «eurovilles» projects that seek to unify adjacent cities from different countries. Common policies in many areas are being put in place and this seems to work well. Since Poland is in the EU, we have crossed the bridge as nothing… precisely: Walk through the streets, take the bridge (to admire the silhouette of the historic city view on the Polish side) and enjoy the increasingly bicultural atmosphere of Görlitz-Zgorzelec. Görlitz is on the road to Santiago de Compostela, so the pilgrims go through the crowd. In Germany, its tourist attraction is increasingly rated… And the little town lusacienne is finding the crossroads that made its history.
