This town, in the heart of the "Fläming" region, a prosperous medieval town that belonged to the Archbishops of Magdeburg, has an old town of character, thanks in particular to its St. Nicholas Church, a late Gothic brick jewel dating mainly from the 15th century and the magnificent town hall, also Gothic and made of red brick. The ornaments on its façade are superb. The surrounding wall, with its three towers, is remarkable. For the anecdote, the strange name Jüterbog comes from the Slavic language and is derived from "Jutro", morning, and "Bog", god. The city, in the time of the Slavs, would have been a centre of pagan worship.
