On the road between Brest and the forest of Belovezhskaya, make a short stop at Kamianets. According to ancient Chronicles, the city was built between 1276 and 1288 under the order of Vladimir Vasilkovitch, the prince of Kermanych, as part of the defensive system of the western border of his kingdom. From the old town, today only the famous tower of Kamianets (Белая вежа) on the edge of the river Lesnaja. Called belaja (white), in the sense of "free, infidel", this beautiful romantic tower 30 m high and 13 m wide is in red brick. In the Soviet era, it was painted in white by mistake and it was only in the late 1980 s that it was made its original appearance. Today, it hosts an exhibition on the history of Kamianets (open from 10 am to 18 pm except Monday, 2,50 BYN). Located on a hill, it stands out on the bottom of the city and the countryside by its monolithic silhouette and minimalist decoration. Although towers have existed in Brest, Grodno and Navahroudok, that of Kamianets is the most important. You can also visit Saint Simon's Church, built in 1914 in pseudo-Russian style, instead of a wooden church.
