These three villages are located at the northern tip of the peninsula. Ellison Bay gives west, Rowleys Bay east, and Gills Rock to the north, a little elevated relative to the other villages in Door County. Three small villages, really tiny. Gills Rock keeps the look of the fishing village of the past and present. It is always the starting point for small fishing vessels. It is also here that underwater excursions are starting under the surface of Lake Michigan. The wrecks, which consist of dozens in these treacherous waters spread through the high currents of the Passage of the Porte des Morts, are remarkably preserved in the cold waters of the lake. For driving fans, there is a road, connecting Gills Rock at the Pier for Washington Island, which is particularly singular: firstly, we follow a straight road which looks like a Russian mountain and then, after one kilometre, it is Corsica: in addition to the hills, we are entitled to a series of very tight turns. It rises, it goes down, it turns dry, and then suddenly one finds itself faced with the Passing of the Porte des Morts, facing Washington Island. Of course, this road, even if it looks like a rally track, is frequented by bicycles, hikers and wild animals at night. So many good reasons to lift the foot. South of Ellison Bay you will find one of the most beautiful views of the peninsula. From Ellison Bay, take Highway 42 south, then Bay Road on the right. On Bay Road, leave Grasse Lane on your right and turn right into the land called Ellison Bluff Road. At the end, a small wooded parking. And there, a cliff facing Green Bay Bay and a small step above the emptiness. The best time to visit the place is in the evening at dusk, when the sun sits on Green Bay.
