When Captain Justin Bailey found refuge in this natural harbor in 1848, during a violent storm, he discovered a calm and quiet place. It is still the same today, nothing has changed, except of course the presence of the village, its shops and its beautiful wooden town hall. Nature lovers will feel at home in the Ridges Sanctuary, a geological formation created by the rising and falling waters of Lake Michigan. It's a wildflower preserve for a leisurely stroll through woods and moss beds. The sandy beach opens onto the lake. A little north, the Cana Island Lighthouse can be visited during the Door County Lighthouse Walk.
